queries answered.

• Easy Access: We are just over an hour away from central London
by train or 1.5 - 2 hours by car. For those flying in, the venue is just
20 minute taxi ride from Nottingham East Midlands Airport (EMA), around 1
hour from Birmingham and Luton airports and less than 2 hours from
Heathrow and Stanstead airports.
• As part of the course the group will spend time doing fieldwork in the beautiful and ancient landscape of Bradgate Country Park.
“Can you tell me more about the distance learning course?”
The
course
enables busy parents, people living abroad or far away from the
Midlands, or those finding it difficult to get time off work to train
to Professional Consultant level. However, Feng Shui is not something
that can be learned entirely at a distance, but with our years of
experience in practitioner training we have carefully constructed a
course which requires only one visit of 7 days to our Training Centre.
The attendance session, which is the last step in the Practitioner
Training, is currently held once a year.
Currently: each August in Leicestershire. The rest of the
course is completed beforehand at your leisure in the comfort of your
own home and / or during otherwise wasteful traveling time. The only
requirement is that you have to complete the home study section of the
course before you can take the attendance session. As a guideline (but
depending on the amount of free time you have) we advise that you
commence the home study at least 3 months before your chosen
attendance session. To
help you plan how many weeks / months you will need, we have
calculated that your total study time for the home study section of
the course will be approximately 96 hours (including homework). Occasionally students commence the home study section with a shorter period before the attendence if they can commit to work on it full-time.
“Can I meet you before deciding to go ahead?”
Yes you can. If you would like to meet us before
making your decision you can do this in one of 2 ways:
1)
The Foundation course is an essential part of your training. Rather
than taking the Foundation Weekend (‘Key Concepts’) module as home
study you could instead attend this course without any
obligation of further training. If you attend our Leicester or London
Foundation courses which are both held twice a year, your teacher
would be
Robert Gray,
our Director who also teaches the whole Practitioner Training course.
2)
Alternatively you could meet Frederique Cooke who will be your
personal tutor on the Practitioner course if you attend a foundation
course in
Sussex.
Finally Caroline Hetherton who is also one our Professional Space
Clearing Diploma teachers runs a foundation course in
York
in the north of England. In all cases during lunch on the 2nd
day there is the opportunity to air any queries about further training
options.
3)
Or, you could arrange an appointment with Robert in either
Leicester
or London to suit both parties, or Frederique in
Sussex
(Brighton area).
“How will I know if I am progressing well when I am studying at home?”
Keeping you on Track and Appraisal:
We have developed a homework system to help keep you on track by
monitoring your progress throughout the course.
1)
This system helps you to implement your new found skills at your home
(or that of a friend) and feedback what you did to us for checking.
2)
Also, if you are in any way unsure about anything, you can contact us
via email or phone and speak to Frederique, your personal tutor, to
get any questions answered.
3)
During the attendance session our ‘progress check’ sessions
will enable us to double-check that you have understood all the
material learnt so far. We will also help you practically apply these
skills both in the classroom and in real live consultations (days 6
and 7) led by our experienced tutors.
4)
Finally after the attendance session when your training is complete
you will have the opportunity to carry out your own full consultation
at a time that suits you, which you can write up and hand in to us for
checking. Once that we are satisfied that you can apply your skills
effectively and present your advice professionally we will accredit
you and you will have the opportunity to be registered on the list of
Accredited consultants on the Feng Shui Society’s website and
yearbook. This will help you be recognized as a properly-trained
professional and gain referrals for Feng Shui Consultancy.
“What will I do if I have questions that I need answering?”
Simply contact us! You can pick up the phone (0871 288 4050 from the
UK or 0044 7071 228080 from outside the UK) or email us your questions
(info@fengshuiacademy.co.uk)
and your personal tutor will be able to guide you through them.
“The
course was perfect for me as I desperately wanted to qualify as an
accredited Consultant but had already planned a long trip travelling
in India. Believe it or not the course materials reached me in the
far-flung reaches of the sub-continent and I was able to study
whilst travelling by listening to the materials on my walkman. As
the programme was recorded live in the classroom, to me it felt just
like being there and any queries I had I was able to make on email”
C
Thompson. (U.S. citizen, based in Northern Ireland but doing her course whilst travelling in
India! )
Is the course well-established?
The
Professional Practitioner Training Course is very well established
and has been running since March 1999. The Distance
Learning option was accredited in 2002. During this time it has been
continually refined and improved. When you combine this with
the fact that Feng Shui is now very well established in the
UK
and many other parts of the world, there has never been a better
time to become a Feng Shui Professional.
How long will the distance learning course take me to complete?
That really depends
on you, as this course puts you firmly in control. The course
comprises several modules of distance study comprising about 50 hours
of audio material (or 60 hours if you haven’t yet completed our
foundation course). This is complemented by comprehensive course
notes. The flexibility of the course means that you can study at your
own pace working very quickly or more leisurely ensuring that the
programme fits in with your home life. You can start the course at
home as soon as you wish. You will need to have completed all the home
study work before taking the attendance session. For most people
working full time we would expect that this would take around 4 - 5 months
(20 - 24 hours per month).
And is the distance learning format also accredited?
Yes, it is.
Below is a copy of the letter of approval from The Feng Shui Society.
At the time of printing (July 2008), The
Feng Shui Academy is still the only UK school to have it's Distance
Learning Practitioner Training
Programme
accredited.
Accreditation Approval of Distance Learning course:
10th December 2002
Dear Mr Gray
I
am delighted to report that the application for Accreditation of the
Distance Learning course made by The
Feng
Shui Academy to the Schools Accreditation Panel of The Feng Shui
Society has today been approved.
We
have been singularly impressed with the concern you have shown for
the students on this course and the thoroughness with which you have
approached both their training and the accountability of the
administration of the course.
Our feeling is that if we get further courses that even approach the
standard you set, we will be very pleased. You deserve success with
this course and hope you can cope with the potential to translate
this into many languages.
You manage to incorporate both the all important 'spirit' and the
technicalities of Feng Shui. Your course is the benchmark by which
other courses will be measured.
On
behalf of the Society, may I take this opportunity to congratulate
you and wish your students and future graduates all the best in this
most exciting and rewarding of professions. We feel sure that those
who choose to study with The Academy will receive the education and
training to set them on the road to be a credit to the Profession,
your School and the Society.
Yours
sincerely, Simon Southall, Schools Accreditation Panel, The Feng
Shui Society
In addition to taking the home study course (modules 1,2 and 3)
‘distance learning’ students will attend a 7 day Practical Session (module 4) in Leicestershire (UK). These modules are
described in the section entitled ‘’
Day 1 expanded: Details of the ‘Practical Feng Shui Skills’ session:
The purpose of this session is to provide the students with the
practical skills necessary to practise Feng Shui confidently and
competently. These are skills which are more easily taught with
practical demonstration and face-to-face interaction. The practical
application of these skills will then be ‘double-checked’ in the live
consultation days that follow.
1) Use a professional field meter to survey an
environment for electro-magnetic fields.
2) Learn how to take accurate compass readings
in order to properly place the compass based Bagua on a floor plan.
3) Learn how to measure up a space to transpose it onto a
floor-plan.
4)
Assess the yin / yang balance of an environment.
5) Make practical recommendations for how to
introduce the five elements into an environment.
6) Assess the symbolic impact of a client’s
physical home environment.
7) Assess the chi, yin / yang balance, and
five element impact of artwork.
8) Assess the physiological and symbolic
impact of artwork and ornaments.
9)
Make recommendations with regard to appropriate and inappropriate
symbolic imagery for each of the nine life areas of the Bagua.
10)
Practise sensing the energy of a space and use space clearing tools
and techniques to clear their own homes.
What are my next steps?

rest of this material
to familiarise yourself with the course programme and decide which
format suits you best: ‘Full Attendance’ or Distance learning’
2)
Contact
us with any queries
by email or phone (10am -1pm) Monday to Friday.
3)
Complete the course registration at the end of this document and post it to us with either the full
course fee or, if you are paying by instalments, your deposit and
completed standing order form.
4)
After making contact with you on the phone we will send
your welcome pack and first complete training module with full notes
and audio cassette programme.
The evening gatherings enable you to share experiences and develop
friendships and a support network that will prove to be invaluable
when you begin practising Feng Shui in the wider world.
“One
of my fondest memories is walking through the park every
morning on my way to the course. The peace and beauty of the surrounding countryside added an extra element to the whole
experience. I could have commuted to
London each day (which was an optional location at the time) but as a busy mum, I found staying away from home
very beneficial and spiritually refreshing. It enabled me to
concentrate properly on studying." Frederique Cooke,
BRIGHTON.
“…Best of all, with most students staying over, it meant we
got together most evenings, exchanged views and ideas, helped each
other and formed firm friendships. Now that I am ‘out there’
practising FS, it is great to know I have that ‘support group’. Marianne
Tregoning,
CORNWALL.
